What are the side effects of Orlistat?
The side effects of Orlistat are generally mild and occur at the beginning of treatment, particularly if the individual taking Orlistat consumes a large amount of dietary fat each day.
Orlistat side effects typically subside as treatment progresses, provided the individual follows a healthy and balanced diet in which a maximum of 30% of total calories is fat, with the remaining coming from carbohydrates and proteins.
The side effects of Orlistat are listed below.
Highly common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
- Oily rectal discharge
- Passing gas with oily discharge
- Liquid, oily, or fatty stools
- Inability to control bowel movements
- Abdominal pain
- Low blood sugar
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Soft stools
- Rectal discomfort
- Rectal incontinence
- Bloating
- Fatigue
