Desogestrel side effects
Like any medication, Desogestrel can result in some side effects, which vary from person to person.
Some of the more common and less serious side effects of Desogestrel (which may affect 0.1% of women) include:
- Spotting and light bleeding
- Missed periods
- Mood changes
- Decreased sexual drive (libido)
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Acne
- Breast pain and/or discomfort
- Weight changes
Uncommon side effects of Desogestrel, which may affect up to 0.01% of women, include:
- Vaginal infection
- Vomiting
- Hair loss
- Painful menstruation
- The development of an ovarian cyst
- Fatigue
Some of the rarer and more serious side effects of Desogestrel, which may affect up to 0.001% of women, include:
- Symptoms of angioedema, such as:
- A swollen face, tongue, or neck
- Difficulty swallowing
- Difficulty breathing
- Prolonged or heavy bleeding (if this occurs, consult with a doctor immediately)
- Rash
- Hives
- Painful bluish-red lumps on the skin (erythema nodosum)
