Diflucan 150mg is a single-dose oral capsule for the rapid treatment of thrush.

What is Diflucan 150mg?

Diflucan is a single-dose antifungal medication that contains the active ingredient fluconazole. Diflucan is highly effective at rapidly clearing genital thrush infections in both men and women. Each hard capsule of Diflucan contains 150mg of fluconazole.

Diflucan is the branded version of generic Fluconazole and is often more expensive despite being medically equivalent to generic Fluconazole.

What is Diflucan used for?

Diflucan 150mg is used to treat thrush, a form of fungal infection (Candida) that can affect the genitals and skin of both men and women. Thrush symptoms include itchiness, irritation and white discharge from the affected area.

How does Diflucan 150mg work to treat thrush?

Diflucan treats thrush by targeting and killing the fungi that causes thrush (Candida) so that it stops producing ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. Diflucan contains the active ingredient fluconazole, which disrupts ergosterol production and breaks down the fungal cell membrane, preventing Candida from spreading.

How do you take Diflucan?

To treat thrush, you need just one course of Diflucan; this is a dose of a single tablet containing 150mg of fluconazole. Swallow the Diflucan 150mg tablet whole with a glass of water. If you take more than the recommended dose, contact your doctor immediately.

How long does it take Diflucan to work?

Diflucan should begin treating thrush within two days of taking a dose. If you are still experiencing symptoms of thrush after seven days of taking a dose of Diflucan, contact your doctor.

Who should not take Diflucan?

You should not take Diflucan if you are allergic to fluconazole, or any of the ingredients also contained in Diflucan capsules. You should also not take Diflucan if you are taking:

  • Astemizole or Terfenadine (antihistamine treatment)
  • Cisapride (upset stomach treatment)
  • Pimozide (mental illness treatment)
  • Quinidine (heart arrhythmia treatment)
  • Erythromycin (antibiotic infection treatment)

What is the difference between Diflucan and Fluconazole?

Diflucan and generic Fluconazole work in exactly the same way, both containing the active ingredient fluconazole to clear thrush. As the branded version of generic Fluconazole, Diflucan is more expensive despite being medically equivalent.

Can I take Diflucan whilst pregnant or breastfeeding?

You should not take Diflucan whilst pregnant or breastfeeding without consulting a doctor first. If you find out you are pregnant after recently taking a dose, contact your doctor immediately.

Talk to your doctor before taking Diflucan 150mg if you:

  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Suffer from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems
  • Have abnormal levels of calcium, magnesium or potassium in your blood
  • Develop severe skin reactions (itchiness and irritation of the skin, difficulty breathing)
  • Develop signs of ‘adrenal insufficiency’ where the adrenal glands do not produce enough of certain steroid hormones like cortisol (chronic or long-lasting fatigue, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, muscle weakness)
  • Have ever developed a severe skin rash, blistering, peeling of skin or a mouth sore after taking fluconazole

Can you take Diflucan whilst on antibiotics?

Diflucan 150mg can interfere with some antibiotics, so it is best to consult your doctor before taking Diflucan whilst on any antibiotic treatment.

Can I use antifungal cream while taking Diflucan?

You can use antifungal cream that contains clotrimazole to relieve the symptoms of itching and soreness caused by thrush whilst taking Diflucan 150mg. If you are not sure about the ingredients of your antifungal cream, consult a doctor before using.

How do you store Diflucan?

Store Diflucan in a cool, dry place under 25℃. Keep out of sight and reach from children.
