Levitra Product Information
Levitra is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), which refers to a condition where a man experiences problems achieving and maintaining an erection. Levitra is formulated for use by adult men and contains the active ingredient ‘vardenafil’.
Levitra is classified as a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor which affects the PDE-5 enzyme in blood vessel walls. In doing so, Levitra helps to relax the muscles in the penis, increasing blood to flow through the blood vessels. The extra blood in the penis helps with achieving an erection.
A tablet should be swallowed whole with water about 25 to 60 minutes before sexual activity. Levitra will not work without sexual stimulation. The recommended initial dose is 5 mg once a day which can be adjusted according to how you respond to the medicine and after consulting a pharmacist or GP.
It is recommended to start with a 5 mg dose of Levitra before considering higher doses. Do not take higher doses without consulting a pharmacist or GP about treatment suitability.
Levitra takes approximately 25 to 60 minutes to take effect and requires sexual stimulation to work.
Levitra remains in the body for around 4 to 5 hours.
Levitra FAQs
Levitra can be taken on an empty stomach or after eating a meal. However, taking Levitra with a high-fat meal can delay the action of the treatment and may reduce its effectiveness.
Taking Levitra can be risky for individuals taking alpha-blockers, such as those used to treat high blood pressure. Levitra may also be risky if taken alongside nitrates or other phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, such as Viagra or Cialis.
Levitra and Viagra work in the same way but have different active substances. Levitra contains the active ingredient ‘vardenafil’ and lasts approximately 5 hours, while Viagra contains the active ingredient ‘sildenafil’ and can last approximately 4 hours.
Vardenafil is the generic version of Levitra and is available at a lower price, despite being medically identical to Levitra.
Levitra is not available over the counter as it requires a prescription.
