I occasionally get a cold sore on my lips. The patches work well, in tandem with aciclovir pills, for reducing the duration of time that the cold sore is infectious and visible.
One tip is to carefully scissor the patch in half before attaching it to the lip. This makes the patch itself less visible and less likely to loosen if the cold sore is only on the lip.
With trimming the patch and taking a five day course of aciclovir tablets the duration of time of infection and visibility of the sore is halved ie 14 days reduced to around 7.
