Keeping active and improving your breathing
With asthma on the rise in the UK, here are a few tips for improving respiratory health

It's more common than you think
It is estimated that one in five people in the UK suffer from a lung condition, with approximately half of those using treatments such as inhalers for the condition. However keeping active may also prove beneficial in improving your quality of life when living with a long term lung condition.
Physically strengthen
Improving muscle strength, in particular the breathing muscles which can help improve your circulation and respiratory system. Yoga can be a great way for people of all ages and abilities to strengthen their breathing.
Bolster your mood
Even light exercise will improve low energy levels and low mood by reducing anxiety and stress. If you suffer from a lung condition, you may feel anxious doing physical activity, however, by becoming more active the more energetic you will feel over time. To begin with, try walking for 20 minutes a day. Whether its walking to the shops or choosing not to take the bus to work, integrating light exercise into your life does not have to be disruptive to your schedule.
Consistency is key
You can also try other types of low intensity exercises such as joining a dance class, but before making any changes always remember to consult your doctor to see if the type of exercise you choose is appropriate.
